One of my favorite types of freelance projects is designing logos. Here is a recent example of my process, for the an academic organization for radiologists called RadSIG.
1. Interview the client. Learn about her organization, brand personality, and goals. Hear about what inspires her, what design elements turn her off, and what she considers a must-have. Define and align on scope of project and deliverables.
2. Sketch many concept ideas, and then narrow down to three design directions. Present these options, including the rationale behind each concept.
3. Develop the client's chosen concept into a first-round draft and refine as necessary to come to a final version.
4. Create a reference guide with fonts, logo treatments, and colors. Package up all variations of assets in vector and raster formats.
Here are highlights of the first round of logos.
Below is the final reference guide, which I delivered along with vector and raster logo files.
